I know I have to have a c-section with this baby. I have gestational diabetes and since my first son got stuck at 8.0 lbs and this little one is more then likely going to be more then that it is in his best interest to have a c-section. I have already had one, my twins were c-section as my son was laying cross wise! But I didn't do a very good plan for them. I was wondering if anyone had anything they put in their plan they would share with me! You have many less choices with a c-section but I feel there are still essentials that should be covered! Any help would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!!!
Mommy to 5 y.o., 3 y.o. twins and 33 weeks pregnant with baby #4
What did you include in your birth plan for a c-section?
I didn't have an actual plan but by my third section I knew exactly what I wanted. I made it very clear before hand that I wanted baby brought to me in recovery. If the hospital is busy when you deliver sometimes you have to sit in recovery for hours before they are able to get you in a room. I also made it very clear beforehand that I did not want any pain meds stronger then motrin because they knock me out and I wanted to be with the baby and able to nurse. My first 2 sections I literally passed from the pain meds in the IV and didn't see my daughters for hours.
edit** I also made sure the anesthesiologist knew that I did not under any circumstances want my arms tied down during the surgery and I also told him to have the nausea medicine ready because the spinal made me really sick during my first section.
edit2** Just read the 3rd posters answer and unfortunately she is right, my middle child also spent a week in the nicu for fluid in her lungs. During a vaginal birth the fluids are squeezed out during delivery. C/S obviously doesn't have that added bonus so a lot of babies do aspirate fluid.
Reply:FIrst of i am going to disagree with the no staples. I had staples with both of my csections and i was fine 3 days after the section they were removed. I made sure that i took me some pjs that would not touch my belly and the were easy to get on and off. And be prepared for a chance of the baby having amnotic fluid in the lungs . Scary I know but there is chance of it my first didnt have it but my second did and was in NICU for 5 days.
Reply:Here's what I did with my second (a repeat c/s).
* NO staples, only sutures - they heal so much faster and better. I've never had staples but have friends that have and more than 50% of them had infections, etc.
* The spinal was much easier on me than the first which was an epidural because I had been pushing when I ended up need the c/s.
* I told my dr. that I wanted my son as soon as I was sutured up and they let me. They brought him to me then and let me keep him. They even let me hold him on the ride in the bed back to recovery and I got to nurse him as soon as I got in the recovery room - less than 30 minutes after he was born.
* I made them let me out of bed as soon as I had all my feeling back and my recovery was much better than the first one - I think because I got to get moving sooner.
That's all I can think of for now. I'll edit if I think of anything else.
Edit: * I also didn't have my arms tied down and they let me touch my son before they took him over to clean him.
